Elvis Aaron Presley's Childhood

Elvis Aaron Presley's Childhood
by: Theresea Hughes

he boy, Elvis Aaron Presley, at the age of two or three he was a real sharecroppers kid wearing his overalls, a two toned shirt, and a hat which is warn in the same way as his dads, is cutely tipped to the right.

With his fine eyes whose pupils seem huge giving him a sharp look, his nose appears to be in a flattened form, his cheeks are very chubby, and even now at this age his famous curl is already altering his full lips.

At the age of six Elvis seems to of developed a few of his mothers delicate features, with his golden colored hair, wide-eyed and beautiful, but his curled lip is very much noticeable, giving the cherub an impish look, but also irresistible.

Now at the age of eight he is taller, slimmer and quite passive: every mothers ideal child, he is now dressed in the local style, with a long sleeved-shirt, open at the neck, and raggedy trousers held up chest high with the support of braces: a mighty fine Huckleberry Fin.

In the future Elvis learns to love God, to value even his worst elders, and to stand by his Country whether it is right or wrong.

As life goes on, his untaught eyes observes his parent's appalling poverty, they both rise with the dawn and work hard all day with very little time for pleasure.

His father keeps changing jobs, they have to keep moving, and it seems like no end in sight. Elvis looks at his mothers face, feels the tension in her flesh, its then Elvis turns to her promising one day he will mend thing's.

It is likely that Elvis is now a wear of the protective smiles to the exposure lying ahead of the family, in the land's gripping poverty.

Elvis sings to his mother when the storms force them from home; he stands up to sing in the classroom and at church, clear, unsteady, doubtful, with an impressive genuineness that brings tears to the eyes of the strongest in the room.

Elvis's nature was very sweet and consistently polite, quiet and considerate, as for rebellion it never existed in his personality. Elvis may have been poor but respectable, standard at school; he would gather flowers with the other kids, fooled around, but seldom gets into trouble: an unknown child.

Elvis is now thirteen and the Presley family is on the move again. leaving the harsh fields to the bright lights of Memphis.

Elvis now sixteen naturally, continues to sing, and carry his guitar around. He would on occasions play for his friends, in the schools variety shows, on picnics and at times at the local boys clubbut not to receive a financial return.
Elvis is not showy with it; he is quite the opposite and is often reluctant.
It's just something he does but knows how to get it going once he starts.
Elvis being no different to other kids of this age: following the girls, pairing up to go out to the movies, having rides at the carnival, and longing for the day he has a car to go cruising injust an average all American boy.

In the adolescent years hanging out by the drug stores and jukebox joints, bored by the past, with nothing offered by the present, while casting misty eyes to wards the romantic future. It seems his Country is going through a boring stage.

It would all seem such a drag

Girl's in their bobbed hair and make up; the guy'spresenting neatness wearing slack's and jumper's with tidy crew-cutplay sport.

Just before the end of Elvis's school year's, he start's part time work as an usher to help out with the hard times for his parent's, but had to quit after punching a fellow usher.

He then works evening shift at the Marl Metal Product's Company which became difficult while also tending school though the day but after falling to sleep at school he quits again.

Life dosen't seem to be improving for his parents as they continue to struggle through the tough times, Elvis starts mowing lawns for pocket money, and yet no matter how grim thing where for the Presley's, they would always do the best they could by their son.

They went as far as buying Elvis a Lincoln Coupe, which it seems, is for all the family, but Elvis uses it.

Life remains unsteady, but in view of the conditions Elvis has good times going out to parties, hanging around jukeboxes, generally enjoying life. But he remains very thankful to his parents and returns all the love he receives.

After leaving school in June 1953 he gets a factory job, then goes to Crown Electricity Company, where he finally gets to be a truck driver and loves it.

It was noticed by many he liked to comb his hair and that it wasn't a concern how seen him do it, in all reality he thought little of others opinions as he would rather use a beauticians pallor than that of a barbershop.

Strumming Patterns For Guitar

Strumming Patterns For Guitar

Guitar strumming is a basic of playing the instrument.

As there are many different picking techniques, and any number of chord inversions, there are different strumming patterns for guitar. A list of strumming patterns is nearly impossible to define, as there are variations from jazz all the way to country strumming patterns (and every style in between) that go well beyond the usual guitar strumming patterns. As many players as there are, you can be assured new strumming guitar techniques, as well as guitar strumming tricks will be invented to challenge the old patterns. Learning guitar chords strumming or just the basics of strumming the guitar could take a few months, but years to master.

Basic strumming patterns is where this all starts. Down strokes or up strokes, it is imperative you keep the rhythm steady (unless of course you want a slower or different strum on your opposing direction). Sometimes within the same stroke you might slow down or speed up, but these are beyond the basic strumming patterns. In fact there are those basic strumming patterns where you don't even attempt opposing down-strokes and upstrokes, just a nice steady flow with a flick of your wrist in one direction.

No matter what stroke you are trying, what level of skill you have, the motion with guitar and strumming should come from the rotation of your wrist. Overall it is best not to stiffen your wrist stiff when strumming (even picking).

There are some differences in strumming a guitar, based on the type of guitar you play. Strumming patterns for acoustic guitar can often become very percussive; there is a lot of bouncing off the strings. In some ways the acoustic makes guitar strumming tricks easier and the flourishes you manage might seem very showy because of the big sound you can get by moving your wrist fast across the acoustic sound hole. But at the same time, placement of your hand is very important when trying various strumming patterns for this type of guitar; no matter how you are strumming the guitar you get the best results by playing directly over that sound hole.

Guitar strumming techniques for electric can be different, but basically it is still up to how well you move your wrist...and where you strum. The pick-ups in an electric guitar (or an acoustic with pick-ups) allow you to play at various places over the body of the instrument. Strumming the guitar close to or away from pickups, even choosing to play over one pick-up instead of another alter the sound of even the most basic strumming patterns.

As a magician might claim, it really is "all in the wrist". By regulating your speed during guitar strumming, adding some guitar strumming tricks like hammers and pull-off's, and even actually lifting your hand from the guitar, you can introduce whole new strumming patterns into your playing. The trick really is to keep the motion consistent and your wrist placed correctly (and your pick held tightly (if you are using a pick). The dexterity and speed you will gain in practicing a good steady strum will help you even as much or more so, then the scales you can run off. There are a bunch of good lead players out there, in fact almost everyone who picks up an electric guitar wants to play lead, but how many players do you know even know the most basic country strumming patterns, or how many of us can keep up a consistent, odd timed rhythm through an entire song?

Guitar strumming is a basic of playing the instrument.

Cross Training for Dancers

Cross Training for Dancers

From the Barre to a Barbell

As Summer approaches, many Dancers will embrace a much needed three or four month layoff. Some will vacation, some will continue to obsessively take class day after day. The smart Dancer Cross Trains. To continue Dancing with the intensity you had during the Season is like beating a dead horse. Our bodies need time off in order to make important gains and improvements. Yes, you can actually improve by taking some time off!

Here is the Cross Training Plan that I recommend;

Right after the Performance Season is over, take at least 2 weeks off! Upon returning to class, this will give you a clear signal as to what “pains” are actual injuries and which were just symptoms of overuse. During that first class back (typically after a 2 to 6 week break) take note of certain areas and muscle groups in the body that feel weak. If you feel that you have a serious injury this is a great time to see a Doctor, get an MRI, and get it fixed in time for the season to start.

After taking note of those weak areas, consult a Personal Trainer for Dancers such as myself for Dance Specific exercises that you can do in the gym. On Ballet Dancers, for example, the “turn-in” or legs in a parallel stance is usually weak. I would then recommend some basic strength training techniques involving one-leg squats and exercises on the Bosu. Dancers also tend to favor one side of the body. This is a great time to strengthen your weak side!

As far as taking class goes, I recommend no more than 3 days per week during your time off. The other 2 days should be dedicated to your Cross Training!

Feeling out of breath during that variation? Don’t forget about cardio. What better time than Summer to go for a run, hike, or bike ride in your favorite park. You may be suprised at how much better you feel and how much more you are able to do pain free!

How do I Cross Train? To ensure that my trouble areas stay injury free, I take class only twice per week during the off season and weight train twice per week. I also focus on keeping my core strong with lots of unique abdominal exercises. For Cardio, I do chasse’s on the treadmill, front and side!

Folk Music Journal, Annual

Editorial
Folk Music Journal, Annual, 2010 by David Atkinson

This issue of Folk Music Journal brings volume 9 to a close. This has proved to be one of the largest volumes in the history of the journal and at the same time has seen the journal and its predecessors achieve a secure place in the electronic world on the JSTOR platform. These are all, I think, signs of the health both of Folk Music Journal and of our research field at large, and of the EFDSS which has continued to demonstrate its firm commitment to publishing high-quality academic research.

Indeed, this year has been a landmark one for the EFDSS in the field of folk song research, with the successful completion of the Take Six project. This has seen the collections of Janet Blunt, George Butterworth, Francis Collinson, George Gardiner, Anne Gilchrist, and Henry and Robert Hammond archived to professional standards and mounted online in a fully searchable database which provides access to the digitized documents . The six collections amount to more than five thousand songs, tunes, dances, and other folk art-related ephemera, comprising over twenty-two thousand images. Such items represent the historical raw materials of our research field. Supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, the project marks a further important step in the recognition of the EFDSS and the Vaughan Williams Memorial Library as the leading centre for folk song and related research in the UK.

This issue of the journal contains three substantial articles. Rosemary Coupe's study offers not only a detailed history of the development of the 'Eightsome Reel', from the nineteenth century through to its place in films such as Four Weddings and a Funeral, but also a valuable case study in the invention of traditions. She demonstrates that this iconic Scottish dance has fulfilled the needs of several different communities in its lifetime, showing not just how it has come to serve the ends of cultural nationalism, but how it has been both a lived tradition and an invented tradition at the same time.
Paul Cowdell tackles the unsavoury subject of cannibalism at sea. Beginning with the entry into circulation among sailors of the literary parody 'Little Boy Billee', written by the novelist William Makepeace Thackeray, the article relates songs about 'survival cannibalism' to the established 'custom of the sea', and also its eventual reduction with technical improvements in navigation and shipbuilding. The movement of such a song into oral tradition, the article argues, reveals a good deal about the developing nature of traditions. Folk song traditions do not die out, they change.

Andrew King's investigations into the Ella Leather manuscripts in the Vaughan Williams Memorial Library have unearthed much information about a song collector who has previously seemed a rather enigmatic figure. Leather was in fact a significant collector in her own right and an important collaborator with Cecil Sharp and Ralph Vaughan Williams. The article sheds new light on relationships among the early collectors, restores to Ella Leather the credit for collecting a significant corpus of songs, including some remarkable Herefordshire carols, and recognizes her pioneering work with the phonograph. It is a worthy addition to the journal's occasional series describing resources in the VWML.

This year the obituaries section is regrettably larger than one would have wished. Arranging obituaries is the least enjoyable part of editing the journal and I am, as ever, extremely grateful to the writers who undertake this sad, but worthwhile, task. Besides those honoured here, the death of the American folklorist Sandy Ives came too late in the year to be properly acknowledged in this issue and a full obituary will be published next time. Nearer to home, the untimely death of Malcolm Douglas deserves recognition. Malcolm did sterling work revising and updating the book of Classic English Folk Songs, published by EFDSS in 2003, and initiating the revised editions of Frank Purslow's selections from the Hammond and Gardiner collections, commencing with Marrow Bones, published in 2007. The intention is that the series will continue, and it will be a fitting tribute to Malcolm's enthusiasm and dedication.

On the subject of publications, it seems appropriate to note the republication in print of Bertrand Bronson's Traditional Tunes of the Child Ballads, long beyond the reach of most pockets but now reissued by Loomis House Press/CAMSCO Music. It would, of course, be impertinent to have Bronson reviewed in the journal at this date, but we might hope that its welcome republication, besides being an immense convenience for researchers and performers alike, will stimulate anew research into the whole business of ballad melodies and Bronson's conception of tune families. Underlying research into traditional items of all kinds seems to be an implicit question: 'How similar do things have to be to be the same?'

Music in Art

Music in Art
Arts & Activities, Dec, 2009 by Jerome J. Hausman

MUSIC IN ART (2009; $24.95), by Alberto Ausoni (translated by Stephen Sartarelli). Getty Publications.

This is a more scholarly publication that provides an overview of music, musical instruments and musical performance as duplicated in art. It would serve as an excellent resource for secondary-school students interested in the visual references to music.

The book is organized into five sections. The first explores the role of music within a language of symbols dealing with concepts and ideas. Themes such as "the ages of man" or "love" or "lust" serve as examples where musical instruments are used as symbols to embody the intended meanings.

The second section is organized around images of music (instruments and performance) related to the myths of antiquity. Such figures as Areon and Orpheus serve to represent poetry and sound.

The third section deals with religious subjects. Often represented are heavenly singers or musicians (usually accompanied by angels) as they seek to express the harmonies of heaven and the pain and suffering of hell.

The fourth section is devoted to musical performance. Artists have duplicated the settings and circumstances where music is performed.

Lastly, the fifth section catalogs the images of instruments of Western music. A musical, historical and art historical discussion accompanies color images of works by Anthony van Dyck, Hieronymus Bosch, Gustav Klimt, Francisco Goya, Marc Chagall, Man Ray, Edouard Manet, Henri Rousseau and others. The book's appendices include an index of subjects, an index of artists and a glossary.

10 Dance Career Tips From Professional Dancers

10 Dance Career Tips From Professional Dancers
by: Alex Ferguson

Dance careers can be difficult to jump-start, so why not listen to some advice from professional dancers?

This past weekend, we had some additions to our usual group of friends, professional dancers. After I got over my initial sense of awe, we began to talk about their dance careers. I’ve always been fascinated with how people rise to the top of their profession. Professional athletes, movie stars and bands, they all have a unique story but there are usually some core similarities. This article outlines the basic things you should do to start your career in dance to become a professional dancer. Now, you’ll need a little bit of luck, good timing and connections as well, but you could get all of that while getting a Big Mac at your local McDonalds. Natural talent is a good base, but it won’t take you to the top. You need to nurture that talent, develop it and present it to the right people. This article shows you the basics. Some are more obvious than others. Most of you just need some reassurance that you’re taking the right steps to reach your goal, while others have no idea where to start. I believe that not all people in the “know” have the level of talent they need, and not all people with talent are in the “know”. I want to change that, so let’s start!

1. People do not become professionals in anything by reading a few articles or practicing a few hours a week.
They become students of their profession. Students go to school. This goes for professional dancers as well. Now, there are a select few that push themselves on their own and have developed a wonderful ability, but that is still not enough. Their talent is rough and unrefined. Regardless of how many years you’ve practiced in your basement, everyone needs some formal training. Nothing can replace a veteran dancer showing you right from wrong, critiquing you and encouraging you. Start by going to a dance studio. Obviously, the sooner you do this the better. You’ll rack up experience and the younger you are the more receptive you are to learning. A good rule of thumb is the bigger the dance studio the better the dance professionals. However, a good teacher has experience, but also a connection with their pupil. This relationship can be forged at smaller, local dance studios as well. Remember, this is just the beginning. There are many professionals that reminisce about a grade school teacher that influenced them the most. Of course, it was probably some Julliard professor that trained them the most, but the person who taught them passion and desire is usually someone they met earlier in their dance career.

2. Dance camps and other supplemental dance institutions are a great way to increase your exposure to various aspects of the dance industry.
You will network, learn techniques and be exposed to different teachers and performances. Going outside your comfort zone is a great way to build independence, character and a sense of responsibility as a dancer.

3. When you graduate high school, you’ll be looking to go on to college.
This decision should be well thought out. You’re going to trust them with your education that will play a significant role in life after college. As an aspiring, professional dancer, you will want to attend the most prestigious dance school you can find. Try to find an accredited dance school, but at the very least any dance school is better than none. Make sure you start planning before it’s time to apply, like well before. You should begin your research about dance schools while you’re still in high school. Find out what requirements they are looking for in a dancer. Do whatever you can to better your chances at being accepted.

By the end of your formal training, you should, if you haven’t already, be narrowing down your dance techniques to a few select, specialized styles. You need to seek out the best dance teacher(s) you can find in those styles and train—train—train. Like any profession, it’s all about education, and for a professional dancer, you never stop learning and practicing. Once again, if you are serious and want to advance in your dance career, at this point you need an expert, a real professional dance teacher.

4. The next tip is something that I’ve written about before.
You need good head and body shots, and for that you need a good photographer. Refer to my article, “4 Tips for Great Actor Headshots”, on Talent Trove for more information about what you need for a good portfolio. Yes, it’s about actor headshots, but there are some valid and transferable tips for dancers as well. The important thing to remember for your body shots as a dancer is that you should take pictures of yourself in various dancewears. Don’t wear flashy jewelry, use lighting or shadows to create illusions, or distract the observer with a complex or interesting background. You should be the focus and the subject of interest, nothing else. Good photographs can really help you further you dance career by grabbing the attention of those who should be watching you.

5. At this point, you should already have been to minor dance auditions and castings, just to get your feet wet and some sort of experience, however, now you are ready for some serious work…and it is work. Don’t ever forget that this is your job, your profession. This new level of dance might come as a shock or seem like foreign territory, but you must believe that you are good enough to be here. You are good enough to be here. This is a higher standard. It will be different. It will be difficult, but that is what makes it so much greater when you succeed. You’ve come this far. This is what you’ve been training for, and others have found potential in you, enough to accept and train you. You belong here. The more of these auditions and casting calls you attend, the more comfortable you will become.

6. Those networking and people skills you picked up during your days at dance camp and college will now come into play. You’re in the deep end of the pool now, playing with the big kids. Time to mingle and make new friends. You have to start talking to those professional dancers you see walking the studio halls during your dance auditions. Talk to other dancers who are auditioning. Talk to the judges, casting directors, agents, anyone that will talk to you. Ask them questions, pick their brain, and learn from their stories. Even if they don’t answer your questions, their behavior, demeanor, and way of conversing with you will teach you something. The best thing you can do is become friends with someone successful.

7. You should be fairly comfortable with auditioning by now, and ready to start searching for a dance agent or a dance agency. You will most likely have to perform a dance routine for them in order to be accepted, however, once you’re in you will be given opportunities that you otherwise wouldn’t know existed. These dance agents and dance agencies get the scoop on dance auditions and casting calls so try your best to get represented by one. Once you are in, your dance career will be given wings. However, this is no time to take it easy and coast on through. Now is the time to step it up.

8. Back to what I mentioned before, “…you never stop learning and practicing.” Well, it’s time to train—train—train. Practice makes perfect, I know you’ve heard that before. This intense training period isn’t about learning new styles as it might have been about before. This dance training will focus on honing your existing skills and techniques down to a sharp, crisp point. You need to be awesome in what you do, not mediocre in a broad range of areas. A professional dancer needs to be at the top of their specific field, not hovering in the middle across the board. You’ll have plenty of time later to expand your horizons, but for now you need a job so you can gain valuable experience…and money. Also, stop and take a breath. Look around, you’re becoming a dancer, and your dance career is beginning to take shape. Enjoy it!

9. When you think you’re ready, and don’t wait to long at this point, start researching some choreographers you would like to work with or train with as a pupil. Most dance choreographers will offer dance classes at their own dance studios. You have to wait this long before you attempt to train with a professional dance choreographer, because they are just that, professionals. Dance choreographers will only work with the best dancers so you have to be at a certain point of your dance career for them to take interest in you. There are many benefits to working with a dance choreographer. You become familiar with the way this aspect of the dance industry works. They will begin to recognize you and perhaps throw some work your way. You will also be updated and trained in the most current dance techniques and trends. The fewer things that surprise you during a dance audition the better.

10. At the end of all this there is one important thing to remember, that usually separates those that make it and those that do not. If this is truly what you want, and you’ve dreamt about it all your life, never give up trying. Every successful person in the world has one thing in common. They were relentless in their pursuit of happiness. If you want to make the most out of your dance career, it will take a lot of hard work so don’t get discouraged. You’ll get rejected. Everyone does. Being a dancer is not easy for anyone, but people do it. Why not you?

These tips are not set in stone or by any means in exact order. Everyone is different and some people might jump ahead or start one step later in their career. The important thing is that you have a clear plan with goals, and you work hard to achieve them. (http://www.talenttrove.com/theferg)

Becoming a Professional Dancer

Becoming a Professional Dancer

So you’ve taken classes for a few years and now you’re ready to take the stage as a career. …Or are you? Like any career in the arts, dancing is a long, difficult road to success. Ask any one of our dancers and you’ll find that just about every one of them started out with tons of failed auditions, menial part-time jobs and just plain frustration.

We can’t guarantee that you’ll become a professional dancer right away after reading this article. But we’ll go over the most basic essentials every dancer should have when pursuing a dance career:

1. Make Money
Okay starving artist, “selling out” your creative vision for a few bucks isn’t appealing. But beginning a career as a professional dancer is expensive: you need a place to live, transportation to rehearsals, classes, leotards, FOOD. All of that costs money. But many dance contracts for dancers who are just starting out barely cover a few month’s rent. So many dancers must find part-time jobs that fit their eclectic rehearsal schedules, such as:

Coffee shops like Starbucks offer earlier hours that allow dancers to be available for most rehearsals, classes and auditions. Some even offer health insurance.

Teachinghas great perks, such as keeping in shape on the job, flexibility and free studio time.

  • Freelance work: doing master classes, choreographing
  • Nannyingis a lot like teaching, but even more relaxed. There’s a lot of flexibility, free food and often great pay in cash.
  • Acting: commercials, extra-work on movies where dancers are needed. And remember to save, save save! Because dancing produces such an inconsistent income, you have to be ready for anything.
2. Stay Healthy
Ironically, in a profession that depends on body shape, health insurance is a luxury. Stay healthy by eating right, laying off the booze and exercising regularly both on and off the stage.

3. A Strong Education
Although picking a great dance program is imperative to a dancer’s future well being, it shouldn’t be your only skill. There’s always the chance that something would happen and put a professional dancing career to a screeching halt–losing interest, having a family or a serious injury. Don’t forget to have a practical back-up plan that you enjoy, such as a foreign language, business or education.

4. A Positive, Goal-Oriented Attitude
In this business you need to be able to bounce back quickly and brush off failures. Being the best in your college dance program doesn’t mean a lot when you’re auditioning with the best from other college dance programs. Be aware of the competition, assess your weaknesses and grow.

5. Friends and Family
Networking with other dancers is important, but don’t forget about the people who really matter to your success. They’re you’re biggest fans, the people who come to all of your shows and tell you how wonderful you are no matter how terrible you thought you looked. Don’t underestimate the value of having someone to gripe to after a bad rehearsal or audition, because you can’t afford a therapist anyway. from (apexdance.wordpress.com)

After the stupendous success of the film Vaaranam Aayiram starring Surya, Sameera Reddy and others, Gautham Vasudev Menon is currently directing a breezy entertainer titled “Vinnai Thaandi Varuvaayaa” starring Silambarasan and Trisha in the lead.

The film which has been under production has been shot vtvextensively at Chennai, Kerala and Malta. With an urban look to it, the story is set between two young people who fall in love. The film is almost complete with some portions and the climax to be shot. The authenticity and mood of the film is maintained by shooting at some realistic ambience in and around Chennai and some picturesque locations at Allepey, Kerala.

A much awaited musical from the Oscar Award Winning Composer A R Rahman, the film is sure to churn out some magic in its own special way, rendering some unforgettable and soulful numbers in the composer’s style, shot to the creative visuals of Director Gautham. The musical got a shot in the arm when Vinnai Thaandi Varuvaayaa’s music director A R Rahman was nominated for 3 Oscars and bagged two.

With five song situations in the film, three songs have been composed already, out of which two songs have been shot extensively in Malta at some virgin locations.

The song “Hosanaa”, sung by Vijay Prakash of “Jai Ho” fame, penned to the lyrics of Thamarai and a rap by Blaze is a sure hit among the young crowd for its peppy beats and stunning visuals shot by Manoj Paramahamsa at Malta corresponding to the stylized choreography by Flexy Stu of Adiye Kolluthey fame.“Omana Penne” written by Thamarai too and sung by A R Rahman himself, holds a style of its own in the way it has been sung and programmed.

This song too has been shot at Malta with choreography done by Flexy Stu and is a sure favorite for all A R Rahman fans!

Manoj Paramahamsa (cinematographer) with his captivating visuals adds to the beauty of the film, with the ambience authenticity envisioned by Rajeevan (art director) and the crisp cutting of Anthony (Editing).

Nalini Sriram adds to the appearance of the film with striking costumes for all the actors in the scenes and songs. The costumes made for the songs are eye catching elements that are hard to be missed by the audience!

The film also has Ganesh, Babu Anthony, Kitty, Uma Padmanabhan and Lakshmi Ramakrishnan playing pivotal roles.

Dance Music Producer - Easy Steps to Becoming a Top Producer

Music Producer - Easy Steps to Becoming a Top Producer.

When it comes to music producers, Larry Levan and Frankie Knuckles - known as the godfathers of House music - brought about a near-revolution into the world of Dance music. Over the years, the music they evolved has grown and newer themes have formed and spawned new genres in music. It brought hope for many enthusiasts who always wanted to create a little Dance music for fun and more so for those professionally inclined.
Are you among the enthusiasts that who would like to be a music producer? These days, it's incredibly easy to get into producing Dance music in your own home and it isn't all that expensive.
It's pretty simple!
These days, the entire Dance music evolution is packed into one incredible piece of software. All you have to do to learn how to make music like a pro is install a good piece of music production software, or DAW (digital audio workstation), on your home computer or laptop.

With the help of a good music program, getting started with making Dance music is definitely a great deal easier than jumping in at the deep end - probably a lot easier than you may have ever imagined it. You do not need to know much about music theory and you do not have to be a technical expert. All you need is a home computer and a passion for dance music to create a good dance track.

To become a professional Dance music producer you need to identify what type of music you would like to specialise in. This should be the style you are most passionate about and want to get to grips with. You could choose from drum-n-bass, synth-pop, electropop, electronica, house, trance, electro... the list goes on. With a little research, you will find a host of options you could experiment with and you can take inspiration from other artists, both new and old, as well as growing trends to hone in on your style and work out what makes a good Dance production, in terms of arrangement, mood and instrumentation.

The opportunities

As a dance music producer, you can either write your own music and market it or collaborate with other artists in remixing. You could also work as freelance music producer. Another option is to write music for media and jingles for advertising agencies.

One can expect a decent salary as a dance music producer though it is difficult to find such jobs. There are, however, many an opportunity for freelancers and there are limitless returns if you are willing to put in a bit of hard work to establish yourself as a music producer.

What it takes?

With some dedicated work and good music sense, it is possible to create some excellent sounding tracks sitting right in your house and with the help of minimal instruments. To be able to reach a stature whereby you can deliver a decent track and quality sounding mix of a professional level, you need to invest some time and some concentrated effort. As the quality of work improves, you need to start looking into the marketing aspects of your career. This can be done through researching promotional websites, playing at parties and other gatherings, press releases, etc. and may even entail hiring a marketing company to get your name out there.

First Step - Take a crash course!

There are a number of dance music tutorials are available, which will help you initially to get going. Listening to music of popular artists that interests you will also help. The top favorites include the likes of Deep Dish, Ferry Corsten, Armin van Buuren etc.

Be inspired!

DJ Jack Smooth is an example of a successful dance music producer. He was working as a DJ of a pirate station when he got addicted to house music. He got himself a set of decks and started to work. After getting into music production, by the time he was 23 years old he had put out over 250 records.

Jack Smooth's music stands out because he makes his own music rather than remixing other peoples music. This should be an inspiration for anyone who dreams of making it big in the field of dance music production.

As an established Dance music producer I know how hard it can be to get started and even harder to get your foot in the door. That is why I've created a lens on becoming a Dance music producer which tells you everything you need to know about making Dance music, from what you need to get started, the software you can use to create music down to recommended tutorials and, of course, the wages.

The love of people towards music

The love of people towards music
By: Brain Caron Shelly
The perfect definition of music has not yet been discovered yet, but one close definition is that it is a form of art consisting of audible sound soothing to the human ears. Human beings have generated different forms of music, starting from the beginning of music era. Music varies according to culture, society, language etc. People of different culture have their unique type of music. The love of people for music is unimaginable. Billions of people all around the world are addicted to music. This is however the only addiction which is good for people.

Nowadays, the most popular form of music is the rock music. Rock music originated in the 1940s, during which rock was better known as rock-n-roll. Later during the 1960s rock was derived from rock-n-roll. This rock music mainly consists of electric guitars, bass guitars, drums, keyboards. Looking back at that period we can find many rock legends. Following these legendary rockstars, many people have learnt playing their favorite musical instruments and established their name all through the world. However, all those who learn playing instruments for long time do not succeed in gaining success. The reason behind this is the lack of proper promotion of their music to the general people.

Promotion of a band was very difficult previously, but nowadays it has become very easy with the use of Riff Raters. Riff Raters is a music app present in iphone, using which people can record their riffs or songs and spread it all over the country. Other iphone users find these uploaded songs in their music app of iphone, listen to them and give ratings accordingly. The most rated songs or music riffs get superior rank and are more likely to be noticed by the other listeners. Due to this easy method of music promotion, many talented musicians have come to the limelight. But this music app is helpful only if the music is good and liked by audience. Without the support of the audience, it is impossible to get success; and to win people’s heart you need to compose goof music.

Apart from this method of music promotion, there are other ways also. But, those ways are not as easy and effective as this one. Some of the other ways are uploading songs or riffs in you personal website or in your account in any social networking website, but there is no surety whether others will visit your website or not. You can also distribute your music CDs to others, but that would cost a lot. The use of Riff Raters has outraced all the other ways of promotion of music or a band. This music app is the most popular nowadays; anyone can record their songs or music riffs and spread it.

In earlier times, solo artists or bands had to sign up with music production companies to let people know about their music. It was very hard as the companies often refused to publish songs of the unknown bands. Due to this many talented singers and musicians got lost in the crowd of others.

If you want to promote your band, then the iphone app Riff Raters can be very helpful. It can be used to send your to other iphone users.

Kevin ‘KC’ Cossom

comments
Kevin ‘KC’ Cossom is easily poised to be R&B’s next breakout star thanks to both his undeniable vocal skills and his phenomenal songwriting capabilities. It also doesn’t hurt that he’s the first artist signed to red-hot producer Danja’s ‘New Age Rocks Stars’ (N.A.R.S) imprint either.
Born in Philadelphia and raised in Orlando, Florida, Kevin Cossom first found his love and talent for song in church. Kevin’s mother- an educator and founder of a performing arts academy- was her son’s first supporter, encouraging him to perform his first solo at the tender age of three. He later joined his first group, a gospel act his mother assembled, at the age of six. However, the young singer/songwriter didn’t realize that he wanted to make music his life until he was 14. Once the high school-aged Kevin met Rashad Tyler, his manager, that’s when things began to click for the young upstart.
It didn’t take long for the hungry rookie to get put on. In 2004, he was featured on his first song, Lloyd Banks’ ‘Karma.’ Thanks to fellow Orlando sons/producers The Runners, Kevin followed that up with his first songwriting credit when he penned the R. Kelly hook on Young Jeezy’s ‘Go Getta.’ He has also been featured on albums from Beanie Sigel, Rick Ross, Chamillionaire, Trey Songz and Rocko, among others. “For me, songwriting was a way in… I thought that other songwriters didn’t take me seriously because I was just placing hip-hop hooks,” says Kevin.
They’re taking him seriously now…in fact it was those guest appearances that scored Kevin an audience with Grammy award winning producer Danja (Britney Spears, Mariah Carey, Justin Timberlake). “I went to work with Danja in Miami as a songwriter for a girl group he was working with,” says Kevin. “It was like instant chemistry. He asked me if I was just a writer, and I told him no, it was just another passion and something I did to pay the bills. We talked some more, he heard me sing and the rest is history!”
With the support of Danja, KC is gearing up for the release of his as yet untitled debut album, which he describes as a direct reflection of who he is—part urban, part suburban and part spiritual. “My music is really eclectic. Not backpack or playing on the conga eclectic, but I am inspired by anything that pushes the music to another level. I would definitely describe my sound as unpredictable, but at the same time safe enough to understand. Its feel good and it’s fresh.” In an age of reality stars and hardcore hip-hoppers, it’s good to see that there are some artists who are still doing this for the love of the music. Whether it’s his moving voice or his soulful songwriting, Kevin’s love and passion for the game is what will have his fans wanting more.

Service Music the Lost Artist

Music shapes history and reminds us of memorable events. What would the Vietnam War be without: The Beatles, The Rolling Stone, Roy Orbison, Len Berry, The Four Seasons The Supremes, Frank Sinatra, The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, The Turtles, The Rascals, and Frankie Vallie.

Where is music today? As the world evolves: technology, socio-economic growth, and culture; the evolution of music has found its way to the fore front of quick fixed greed. Music was once represented by Independent Artists that were dedicated to their craft, worked hard and new what true sacrifice meant. Is money the root of all evil? As we look at our artists today who become musicians by way of money. Jennifer Lopez "J-Lo" can be considered a semi-average actress, after making lots of money she’s now decided to be a semi-average pop-star. Let’s not forget our NBA star Shaquille O’Neal, who equally took a stab as a Rap artist. What about our friend NEO… oops or shall we call him Keaunu Reaves. It seems the former Bill and Ted Excellent Adventure star has finally made a name for himself in Hollywood and now we can all listen to his band Dogstar. We see sex appeal pay off as well as the money to buy a record deal for J-Lo, Brittany Spears, Ashley Simpson, Lisa Presley, and now Paris Hilton. What’s going on? Are these people real musicians?

This is my question to you. We are now turning on the television to watch American Idol to watch future musician be nothing more than "sound-alikes" or the better word un-original make shift artists. There are lots of talented people on American Idol but can they really compare to: Fleetwood Mac, U2, and Kiss or those that have changed the world and have influenced bands today: Bob Dylan, The Beatles, Elvis Presley, The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, and The Rolling Stones- just to name a few.

As we listen to Paris Hilton and other such money whores, we must remember the real artist. Music is meant to be created by true hard working, God given talent- not bought by posers wanting a stage. We must respect those that have truly sacrificed for the sake of real memories and history. Oh where, oh where did the true artists go?

Service Music the Lost Artist
By: Greg Joes

It begins as a dream, a dream that usually starts during childhood where the craving for expression never ceases. Several such dreams blossomed in the early 70’s and had continued conception in 1976. What is so special about 1976?
1976
• In Phi Beta Kappa Memorial Hall, President Gereald R. Ford and Democratic nominee Jimmy Carter began the 3rd presidential debate of the 1976 Campaign.
• The Winter Olympics added ice dancing to their program and the gold for US in the women's event was won by Dorothy Hamill.
• The Copyright Act came into effect becoming Public Law number 94-553.
• The subway system in Washington DC is opened.
• The final score: 112-106 ends the final ABA game ever played, as the New York Nets defeat the Denver Nuggets and win the American Basketball Association championship.
• Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak form the Apple Computer Company.
• Marcus Welby, M.D. airs its final episode of this medical TV drama.
• Idaho’s Tetron Dam collapses.
• Son of Sam kills one person and wounds another in his first series of attacks in the city of New York.
• From the north-eastern U.S. to south-eastern Canada; Groundhog Day gale hits.
More importantly, while the world was evolving, true Independent Artists were building the foundation of music that would equally change the face of history and permanently imbed itself within the fabrics of our memories. What is so special about 1976?
Not only does Fleetwood Mac record Rumours in 1976, which would become a blockbuster album in 1977; but Kiss would release their unforgettable first platinum album, The Destroyer and Larry Mullin Jr. would form U2 in Dublin. True Rock and Roll were defined by the still popular U2, as their chemistry kept the bond creating great service music for 29 years. This struggling band stuck together through near-poverty and fortune.
Rock and Roll sounded like the rugged voice of Stevie Nicks, as Fleetwood Mac roots were inspired by The Bluesbreakers, John Mayall’s legendary British Band. The wave of what is considered legendary music of today was rooted by the dramatically shoddy Alice Cooper and the remaining New York glam-rockers of Kiss. Let’s not forget to mention this band’s influences: The Beatles, Black Sabbath, and David Bowie; all of which had their own influences. It is a chain reaction of quality and inspiration within the music culture of today. One great memorable band would not be who they are had it not been for another. The Beatles as we know were one of the ground breaking bands ever in the 20th century and regardless of their breakup in 1970; the band continues to influence others. The Beatles, as great as they were, had their influences- musicians, artist who they deemed as "great." Their two influences were: Elvis Presley and Bob Dylan-the two greatest icons that fathered Rock and Roll. The Beatles and Bob Dylan continued to influence the unforgettable Jimi Hendrix.

A brief introduction to acoustic guitars

comments

A brief introduction to acoustic guitars
By: Charlie Board
Acoustic guitars can add a refreshing dimension to guitar playing, either providing scope to impress with a solo performance, or through adding an ‘unplugged’ quality to a band’s set.

There are generally two kinds of acoustic guitar: classical guitars, usually with wider necks and nylon strings; and steel-stringed acoustic guitars.

Both types of guitar can be used to play a spectrum of acoustic musical styles. The classical guitar however is the instrument of choice for the player of classical guitar music, largely because of its warm tones. It is also the required instrument for those wishing to take traditional academic guitar examinations.

Although classical guitars can be played with a plectrum, the more conventional method is to pluck the strings with the thumb and fingers. This has the advantage of being able to simultaneously sound a pair of strings that are normally too far apart to be reached with a single plectrum stroke or a thumb stroke on its own. The result is an exquisite blend of deep bass and treble tones, and a complete ‘orchestra’ of both harmony and melody. Many classical guitarists grow the fingernails of the plucking hand to add volume to their output.

The steel-stringed acoustic guitarist can also adopt a similar style of finger plucking technique. Again, the combination of bass notes, treble notes, harmony and melody can make the solo acoustic guitarist sound as if he or she is playing two or more guitars. Plectrum playing, however, is more frequently associated with steel stringed acoustic guitars, and different strumming styles lend themselves equally well to pop, rock, folk or jazz styles.

Acoustic guitars will usually require a special acoustic amplifier, particularly when playing in larger venues.

We at Fret Music can advise on the most appropriate set up for any budding acoustic guitar player, and can offer a range of acoustic guitars at great value prices.
